New gear break-in

All new gear sets require a break-in period to help prevent overheating damage. Overloading or overheating can break down gear oil and cause gear failure.

• Avoid heavy acceleration during break-in.
• Keep the vehicle under 60 mph for the first 100 miles.
• Drive 15–20 miles, then stop and let the differential cool before continuing.
• Drive at least 500 miles before towing. Keep the first towing trip under 15 miles, then let the differential cool.
• Change the gear oil after 500 miles to remove break-in particles and coating.

Recommended gear oil: 80W-90 or 85W-140, non-synthetic, GL-5 grade or higher.
